We’ve all heard it before: moderation is the key to a balanced-life. But what is an Aussie to do when the jumbo-sized chocolate bunny in your Easter basket won’t stop calling your name?

We’ve listed five reasons why you don’t need to feel guilty this Easter.

Laugh a little
Laughing not only puts you in a great mood, it is also good for your heart. As you LOL this Easter weekend, you are actually doing your body a huge favour. Laughter decreases your body’s stress hormone and improves your immune system. So as your nibbling on your delicious Easter dinner, remember to laugh a little harder at your family’s “funny” jokes.

Swap your sweets  
Ditch the milk chocolate and opt for a dark option. Dark chocolate has less sugar, and in moderation, helps to lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol levels, and strengthen the immune system. Count us in!

Shop away the stress
Prepping for the big family dinner can be stressful. But did you know that the prep itself is exercise? Research shows that the average person burns about 150 calories in 30 minutes of grocery shopping and an additional 130 calories transforming those groceries into a delicious meal.  When you’re in the grocery store tossing different ingredients into your trolley for Easter dinner, be sure to give yourself credit for the mini workout.

Walk the Weekend Away
Grab a friend or family member and go for a walk after your delicious meal. Luckily, Australia has plenty of scenic coastal walks and beautiful tracks.  It’s a great way to catch up and get your body moving. Can’t leave the festivities for a walk? Keep in mind that running around searching for Easter eggs or sprinting to the oven so your dessert doesn’t burn counts as moving your body too. See, keeping active this Easter is truly easy breezey.

Wash it down with Wine
This tip is definitely our favourite. Reaching for a wine glass, pouring wine, and taking a nice big sip burns calories too (ok, it burns very little, but something is better than nothing, right?). That’s some logic we can get behind.  Chardonnay, anyone?
